Meet Mel. After leaving domestic violence, she reached out to several organisations for help. Many told her they couldn't help, wrong location, overstretched, or that she didn't need help. "When you reach out, it's terrible to hear that you cannot be helped. You feel not worthy of help." Then she found WRC.
1 in 4 Australian women will experience domestic violence in their lifetime. But here's what most people don't know - the majority never get the support they need to truly recover and rebuild their lives. The heartbreaking truth: Most women who escape domestic violence never receive the recovery support they need to rebuild permanently. 5 out of 10 women never receive formal support, 8 out of 10 women never report their abuse to police, and 9 out of 10 women never access shelter services. Too many return to dangerous situations because they lack the foundation to move forward.
Recovery is prevention. When women reset and rebuild their lives with dignity and strength, they break cycles of trauma that can span generations. The Women's Resilience Centre addresses the critical gap in long-term recovery services for women who have experienced domestic abuse and trauma. We support them to reset and rebuild.
Your donation funds transformation: In the last financial year, we supported 507 women and families across 170+ Australian communities. Each woman we help impacts an estimated 4 family members, meaning your donation touches 2,000+ lives including children who break free from cycles of trauma. Your support provides: Trauma-sensitive client care management with personalised recovery plans, skills rebuilding programs covering employment, financial literacy, parenting, and emotional wellbeing, lived experience mentoring from women who've successfully rebuilt their own lives, and national accessibility through secure online programs reaching every corner of Australia.
"I am so grateful for the support that WRC has provided. Over the past 2.5 years, I have received help from several different organisations and WRC is the only group who truly understands that it takes years to recover from the trauma that DV generates. I regard WRC to be a key pillar in my recovery. I would be lost without them." - Mel
